Happy Welcome the Stranger Holy Days

This is a group art project from my church several years ago... the Star of Christmas, created using a collage of Christmas season/Black Friday advertisements encouraging people to buy more junk they don't need.

Subverting commercialism for a remembrance of the story of poor immigrants being guided to a safe sanctuary in the midst of dodging a government out to harass and kill them.

Happy Subversive Holy Days, all you subverts!

preparing for work and only checked in for a moment. But I must address a point or two:

"The thing is, Marshall, we can and have documented Trump's lies."

I've seen a variety of lists from people not unlike yourself (haters), and have found they actually validate my position quite nicely. That is, not much of any real substance and concern, EXCEPT to add to the pile of crap used to suggest Trump shouldn't be president, since there is no legitimate reason to depose him. I'll deal with your partisan and unreliable Politifact link later (it's my last day of my work week and should have some time during the next two days).

"Your claim about my lies are just silly and unsubstantiated claims that you can not support."

I have quite often supported my charge against you with "hard data" which you simply reject out of hand without contradictory "hard data" of your own. What little you do supply is never anything more than your opinion or more examples of that which does not actually qualify as "hard data".

"His promises? Like "Make Mexico pay for the wall..."?"

He has anywhere from two to six years to make good on as many promises as he can. But failure to do so doesn't make the promise a lie, particularly when he has no support from partisan hacks in Congress who are true obstructionists, blocking his proposals with no real argument that they shouldn't be supported. (A major difference between these Dem stumblebums and the GOP opponents to Obama's destructive policies---the harm of which has been borne out almost immediately after implementation).

"Yes, he HAS delivered on appointing two (one unqualified, according to the bar, as I recall) conservative justices to the SC."

I only checked Kavanaugh, but the ABA rated him "well qualified" on 10/31/18. It also gave it's highest rating for Gorsuch. The ABA is a totally leftist organization, to which less than 35 percent of the nation’s 1.3 million lawyers belong, who routinely support left-wing positions on the issues.

"As to the rest, he has not done much of anything productive."

That's an intentional lie on your part, or you simply don't pay attention and just spout leftist hatred as a matter of reflex. Lowest unemployment numbers since the '60s alone makes him light years more productive than the empty suit you supported the previous eight years. Time prevents me from listing his very beneficial accomplishments, but I can do so later.

I have to leave it there, but the point is clear...you're desperate in your attacks on Trump. Can't wait to school you more.

Marshall lives in a world of lies. I feel sorry for his wicked blindness.

Trump said he didn’t pay the women. The he said he didn’t know that Cohen did. Then he said it’s quite legal. Then he said it’s a civil issue and so not impeachable. He said he didnt collude with a foreign power. He said he’d have all the best people around him. Flynn, Manafort, Cohen. Jared. Secret meetings with Russians, with Ukranians, with Saudis.
And now all these entities are under criminal investigation: 1. The Trump campaign 2. The Trump transition 3. The Trump inauguration 4. The Trump administration 5. The Trump Organization 6. The Trump Foundation

Marshall has a reckoning coming.

Just read the Brookings piece and several points indicate you probably didn't read further than the title before linking to it:

1. It cites Glen Kessler's piece claiming 2000 lies in Trump's first year. The problem here is it assume those are actually 2000 literal lies...that is, statements that are by definition "lies". Without stating unequivocally that all 2000, or some of the 2000 are actual lies, one can only assume that, a) Pfiffner didn't read Kessler's piece anymore than you read Pfiffner's, or Pfiffner didn't bother to check each of the 2000 "lies" to verify that they are indeed all lies by definition. It makes the reference irrelevant on the one hand, and false evidence on the other used only to suggest the underlying premise is true. We here in the real world call that lying.

2. It assumes that people who support Trump are taken in by his every word as if we're the rubes Trump-haters so desperately need to believe we are. As I've said often, there are no special skills required to determine whether or not a given statement by Trump should be considered gospel truth as opposed to him just shooting his mouth off. I don't have to believe every story of how many chick a dude bedded in order to be certain I can trust when he says my house in on fire. Only someone who hates the dude would use his ribald fables as proof he can't be trusted.

3. Like you, this buffoon thinks Trump's "fake news" comments are destroyed the people's trust in the media. But as I've explained on more than one occasion, the people already lost trust in the MSM, and Trump is a reflection of that mistrust...NOT the cause of it. That mistrust gave rise to conservative talk radio and thousands of internet sources for news. Worse, the MSM that no longer tries to hide its bias against Trump and the GOP does nothing to restore that trust by being actual objective and truth seeking journalists. THAT indeed makes them the enemy of the people. It's a damned good thing the people don't trust the media!

4. Also like you, Pfiffner ignores the difference between quantity of lies and quality of lies. A hundred lies about crowd sizes or other self-aggrandizing statements are meaningless next to one lie about why four people died in Benghazi, or if you like your doctor or health insurance, you can keep it.

All in all, this article is mere assertion and opinion, not facts and evidence of anything worth the time it took to read it

moving on...

OH. MY. GOSH!!! The Daily Republic piece is even worse!! Rather than go into the same detail as my last comment (though I can if need be), this article pretty much runs on the "lie" being anything that is not 100% PERFECTLY accurate in every detail!! Case in point, the Diversity Immigrant Visa program. Trump's point doesn't require perfect presentation of the program because his focus is on who he wants immigration law to function...merit. Proponents of the program say it IS merit based, but that's a stretch. The type of education and work history requirement to qualify for the visas has resulted in about 63% of recipients ending up on welfare of some kind. So this article lies and cites lies in support of their lies. Ironic! And I know how much you love irony!

"Who'd have thought that I would have to make a case against casual lying?"

Who'd have thought a self-described Christian would pretend anyone's defending casual lying while ignoring far serious lies told by those he supports? I would. I'd immediately have thought of you.

"What has happened to white evangelicals that they so gladly and gleefully sold their souls for a bowl of porridge made up of vomit and feces from Trump?"

Well...THIS is a less than accurate characterization, otherwise known as a lie. (Trump's got nothing on YOU!). You've been told many times now that Christians (of all races) supported Trump for a variety of reasons, never ignoring the problems of doing so. Liars like yourself would have loved nothing better than for true Christians to withhold their votes altogether while fake Christians like you get Hillary elected and further drive our nation into the sewer of your own vomit and feces. But true Christians loved and cared for the nation too much to allow such a tragedy to befall America. They held their noses and voted for Trump and the nation has benefited greatly for their courage to take a chance on this low character dude. And we STILL don't condone or approve of every little aspect of his personality or history.

"As to the rest, he has not done much of anything productive."

A lie...unless you've now also redefined "much"...

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/washington-secrets/trumps-list-289-accomplishments-in-just-20-months-relentless-promise-keeping

This is not to say that I agree with absolutely every point on this list. I would even concede that there are likely a few things that were begun before he took office. But most of this is on him directly or indirectly and puts your "not done much of anything positive" in either the stupidity or the lie column.

"He has appointed anti-environment people to the EPA"

Another lie (you're on quite a roll!). Appointing anti-EPA people to the EPA doesn't equate to appointing "anti-environment" people. Aside from being a completely unnecessary and wasteful department in the first place, the EPA was harmful to the economy for its draconian anti-business regulations. Trump's appointees are well aware of this and are working to eliminate onerous regs that should never have been implemented.

" a man unqualified and unfamiliar of housing issues to HUD, etc... he has appointed unqualified rich people to administer programs they aren't familiar with or are actively hostile towards!"

Here's a few of Obama's nominees and appointees:

1. Obama’s nominee to chair the National Intelligence Council, Chas Freeman, withdrew over questions about payments from the Saudi Arabian government, business ties to the state-owned China National Offshore Oil Corp., and negative statements he made about U.S. support for Israel. After he resigned he issued a combative public statement blaming the “Israel lobby” for “character assassination.”

2. White House “Green Jobs” czar Van Jones resigned after he it was discovered he signed a statement in support of a 9/11 “Truther” group.

3. Former Sen. Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota) withdrew his nomination to become Health and Human Services Secretary after it was discovered he failed to properly pay his taxes.

4. Nancy Killefer, Obama’s nominee to serve as the government’s chief performance officer, withdrew due to tax problems.

5. Governor Bill Richardson (D-New Mexico) withdrew his nomination to become Commerce Secretary because of an ongoing investigation into whether he doled out government contracts in exchange for campaign money.

6. White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers resigned after posing for photos at a White House dinner that a couple crashed through security to attend.

7. Jonathan Z. Cannon, nominated to serve as deputy director at the Environmental Protection Administration, withdrew over questions about a defunct non-profit, America’s Clean Water Foundation, where he served as a board member. In 2007, EPA auditors accused the non-profit of mismanaging $25 million in taxpayer funding.

8. Jide Zeitlin, Obama’s nominee to serve as U.S ambassador to the United Nations for management and reform withdrew his name while being accused of identify fraud and improper business practices.

9. Erroll Southers, Obama’s nominee to serve as director of the Travel Security Administration, withdrew after refusing to answer questions about collective bargaining and false testimony he presented to Congress.

10. Maj. Gen. Robert A. Harding, Obama’s second nominee to service as director of the Travel Security Administration, withdrew his name after it was discovered he received “service disabled veteran” status for sleep apnea.

It's really a short list. Only ten percent of his administration had any business experience at all. And of course Hillary had no experience to be Sec of State...and it showed! His freakin' vice was a proven clown! Oh...as I recall you wrongly suggested one of Trump's SCOTUS nominees was rated unqualified. Well, get a load of this:

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2012/01/10/obama-s-judicial-nominees-deemed-unqualified-by-aba/

You NEVER did a post or make a mention of any of this in all the years of Obama's two terms. EVER! How do you account for that?

More later.

Trump’s achievements, as Marshall thinks of them:

“Stocks? Messy. Bonds? Meh. Commodities? Not pretty.

Most years, financial markets are a mixed bag. A bad year for risky investments, like stocks, might be a great one for safe bets like government bonds. Or, if worries about inflation are hurting bond investments, commodities like gold tend to do well.

Not this year.

For the first time in decades, every major type of investment has fared poorly, as the outlook for economic growth and corporate profits is dampened by rising trade tensions and interest rates. Stocks around the world are getting pummeled, while commodities and bonds are tumbling — all of which have left investors with few places to put their money.”
