“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars, to change the world.”
“I had reasoned this out in my mind; there was on of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other; for no man should take me alive.”
“If I could have convinced more slaves that they were slaves, I could have freed thousands more.”
Black people are the most resilient and creative of Americans. When White people seek in vain for culture, we usually adopt black forms. For a moment it was the Claddagh ring or, in Glen ‘s case, fake kilts.
Country and pop and rock came from Blues and Gospel. Football, basketball, track and field. Athletics. Black dominant. Barbecue, sweet potato pie, cornbread. Critical philosophy and sociology. Black led on the the shoulders of Jewish intellectuals flight from fascist terror and couldn’t get jobs except in HBCUs. The post-modern novel from Ralph Ellison to Ishmael Reed to Toni Morrison.
Marshal is stripped down to rage and hate because time keeps marching in and the nation changes from one century to another. No one enslaved his ancestors for centuries. No one destroyed the familial bonds of his ancestors for centuries. Whippings, chains, lynchings, rape, stolen children aren’t embedded in his family history. His family was never part of the greatest in-the-same-country flight regional murderous terrorism in the South to the North thereby wiping clean away their former way of life and starting brand new in an alien culture. His family was not denied the vote. His family and millions like his were not forcibly relegated to the lowest jobs for generations. To the extent that he and those before lived hard lives of hard labor was due to their own individual fate and individual limitations. There was no systemic array of social and governmental forces targeting his kind.
But he’s angry?
Black people have disproportionately taken positions in our national landscape of the arts and entertainment and in representing joy in hard times. Before a White woman or an Asian or a Latin man, a black man named Barack Hussein Obama II was elected a president almost sweetly because his high standard of dignity. Nursing through the entire eastern half of the US is dominated by black women caring for everyone. Philanthropy is filled and led - Ford Foundation, Mellon Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation - by creative and brilliant black people.
Hip Hop culture is the universal culture of young adults around the world.
Despite centuries of being targeted and slaughtered like Jews, black resilience and hope and joy has triumphed. Unlike those of the Jewish diaspora, though, black folks were not given a nation of the own. No power to determine their own laws. Like Jews, black peoples have been subject to being murdered at whim. And yet, black peoples have not taken up arms and bombs to try to erase their oppressors. They adopted, for better and worse, a live ethic.
No group in American history has as much nobility and strength of spirit as black people.
There is no white culture. A pale Mainer has nothing in common with a pale Georgian culturally speaking. Not food, not music, not aesthetics, and not history. And neither has anything culturally in common with a Montanan.
There is nothing “to be” in whiteness. There is only a status of relationship to social power in whiteness. To wield it and/or negotiate with it.
What I am is only where I come from: a miscegenation of DNA across Northern Europe, some of whom were not accepted as in common with Anglo power holders when they arrived. My father had straight black hair and green eyes. I am brown haired with waves and blue eyed.
I also have a bit of Indigenous Brasilian DNA, certainly due to inbreeding from Scots or Irish or Scots-Irish field masters that managed operations on sugar plantations in Brazil. Which is to say, keeping enslaved people doing the work… and sleeping with them.
As a bred Texan, I also have cultural legacies from Spain and Mexico in my cowboy western heritage: clothing, food, architecture.
Those who cannot accept their truth as a citizen in the Western Hemisphere reject themselves and their common bonds with all the rest from Quebec to Tierra del Fuego.
That kind of denial is self hating.
For everyone of us whose ancestors arrived in chains, desperation from famine, running from creditors, chance to make colonizing riches… for all of except the very few pure native… we are in the same miscegenated boat:
Mixed DNA, mixed cultural inheritances mostly lost or will be lost to time, thrown together by the machinery of colonizing capitalism that thrived on dispossessing natives of their land and, together with Africans and Asians, dispossession of their labor, their limbs, their loved ones, and their lives.
Denying these facts is an irrational act of self-hating.
Embracing them makes all of in the Western Hemisphere who are not native… brothers and sisters.
There is nothing more self-fulfilling, more loving, more promising than that.
St Harriett Tubman - who led enslaved peoples to freedom at cost and risk to herself… in Christlike fashion - is exceedingly proud of the progress being made. And she continuingly pleads with the Father and Son whom she worshipped to let the Spirit move us upward in truth and outward in love for each other.
No rage and hate here, your raging, hateful racist.
"No one enslaved his ancestors for centuries."
How would YOU know? The fact is that every race has been victims of slavery at one time or another throughout human history...white Europeans, too...but in your self-loathing way, you focus all your attention on only one race, because you hate your own.
"But he’s angry?"
No. "He's" not. You just desperately need to think so in pretending to have some moral, intellectual high ground. It's really pathetic and sad.
"Black people have disproportionately taken positions in our national landscape of the arts and entertainment...."
I doubt you could ever back this up, but it would be significantly easier to show they hold a disproportionate percentage of the impoverished and imprisoned, and likely the poorly educated.
"Before a White woman or an Asian or a Latin man, a black man named Barack Hussein Obama II was elected a president almost sweetly because his high standard of dignity."
Not at all. It was ENTIRELY due to that half of him which is black. He had NO record of accomplishment on any level of government which commended him for the job. Too many of the black race, and too many of the left, couldn't wait for an actually intelligent, America-loving, American-loving, non-marxist black person to push into the White House. They were too aroused by the color of his skin to consider what a blight on the nation he would prove himself to be. Intelligent black people rejected him, and many who fell prey to the thought of a black man in office did so as well.
"Nursing through the entire eastern half of the US is dominated by black women caring for everyone."
Also doubtful, but not necessarily unimaginable given they exist in greater numbers there. How many are doing the job because they were smarter than anyone else as opposed to having been an affirmative action placement is another story. What's certain is that you have no idea.
"Hip Hop culture is the universal culture of young adults around the world."
You say that as if it's a good thing. So much of it is vile. Which artists are drawing the greatest share of the market? Christian hippity-hop artists, or thug culture artists? Show you data.
"And yet, black peoples have not taken up arms and bombs to try to erase their oppressors."
See Zimbabwe and S. Africa for just two examples which belie your "blacks are angels" narrative.
"No group in American history has as much nobility and strength of spirit as black people."
That's your white-hating racist opinion and you're welcome to it. The founders were no slackers in that department, and white Americans fought and died to aid the black population in their quest for liberty and equality. Pretty damned noble, I'd say, and so would honest black people. Do you know any?

So much talent, so many contributions to global culture.

I just pointed out that “white” isn’t a real identity. It’s just the coercive reserving of power for some.
So no one can hate whiteness.
But everyone should hate injustice.
