Balthasar Hubmaier - an early anabaptist

Hubmaier was an influential early anabaptist who was put to death along with his wife in 1528 for heresy.

He wrote a great deal including the treatise, Concerning Heretics and Those Who Burn Them, which was in support of religious freedom (including the freedom to not be religious at all).

Hoo boy, Old Balt is one of my favorite guys! He is right up there with Menno and Pilgram Marpeck, who is my favorite.

How about that? Imagine condemning people just for burning a few heretics. Some people!

Hubmaier is a fairly new name to me and Marpeck I don't know at all. I'll have to check it out.
