What a concert!
Sparrow Quartet is (Left to Right in photo): Bela Fleck, Abigail Washburn, (Louisville's own) Ben Sollee and Casey Driessen. Each one of these musicians are legends in their own right. Amazing. Unbelievable. Wonderful. Breath-taking.
But put all four of them together in a group and... wow. I literally gasped in awe several times throughout this concert. Man! And today was their final concert for at least this incarnation of Sparrow Quartet (reunion tour, maybe?)
The glory of this group is their incredible talent on their instruments (including Abigail Washburn and Ben Sollee's fantastic voices), but lyrically, they ain't no slouches, either. Here are the words to Washburn's, Song of the Traveling Daughter...
World sits outside the door
A voice in your heart is calling
The ends of the world await
Traveling daughter
Feel the sunshine on your face
Starlight guides your feet
Earth and Sky will carry you
Journey after journey
One mountain to the next
Voice in your heart is calling
[This is the translation, it was sung in Chinese...]

I am SO jealous you got to see them! I guess I'll have to settle for hearing them on Mountain Stage radio last week. I need to get their CD.
Man, it was a phenomenal concert. And at only $15/ticket, very affordable. This is the type of concert that I'm glad I didn't miss out on - usually, I'm left saying, "Dang, I had a chance to hear X and missed them while they were in town!..."
Like a year or so ago, David Rawlings was playing at a local pub and we thought about going, but it didn't work out so well, so we didn't push it. Then, the next day, we hear that Gillian Welch was there, playing and singing with him unannounced!! AAAGGGHH...
Washburn hinted that they might get together again at some point in the future, maybe next time?
Very cool. Any group with Bela Fleck is alright by me.
