Vast Leftwing Conpiracists Strike Again

"This vetting controversy is a faux media scandal [! dt] designed to destroy [!!? dt] the first female Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States who has never been a part of the old boys' network that has come to dominate the news establishment in this country."

So says senior adviser Steve Schmidt in a memo sent to reporters today, according to CNN.

Paranoia, so soon?

Does the McCain camp REALLY think that there is a vast "good old boys" news establishment that has "designed" a "Faux media scandal" with the express intent of "destroying" Palin because she is a woman??

That's a pretty serious charge. Where's the evidence? Who confessed? How far up does this conspiracy go? Are all the media involved in this conspiracy?

...

Do they ever think how foolish and plain ol' nutty they look when they start accusing the media of conspiracies with the intent of destroying people?

Seriously folk, the media is a vast conglomerate made up of all sorts of folk from all sorts of backgrounds and political persuasions. Sure, some media may be made up of folk with a more progressive background, but it is not a monolith. There are no secret meetings where plans to destroy people are written up and enacted.

when you start making these sorts of claims, you just come across as paranoid and goofy. And for this to come from a major presidential campaign is troubling and they ought to be called on it.

The memo went on to say:

"This is a faux scandal that the media shouldn't even report on, which is why I'm writing this memo and sending it to the media, so they'll stop having something to say about it. Also, they should stop bringing up the whole baby thing, which is why we send out memos and make statements about that every 5 minutes too, and no, we're totally not bringing both of these things up every 5 minutes just to keep these stories going, in order to make Palin look like a martyr..."

:)

I wonder how all those women I see on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and NBC feel about shilling for this "old boy's network." Perhaps the Republicans haven't noticed that women can be journalists these days too. That's the problem with charges of sexism, they're easy to spin back the other way. ie. "Republicans unaware women can be journalists."

But hey, Dan, when it comes to knowing what a faux media scandal looks like, I'd leave that to the McCain folks who invented the whole "masses of Hillary voters are going to defect to McCain" nonsense. They're clearly experts. ;)

This is the same garbage the Republicans carried out in Florida after the 2000 elections. First, they lawyered up, took the issue to court, and ranted and raved about Gore not wanting to count service members votes from overseas. They then complained about how Gore was taking them to court, in order to block absentee ballots from being counted, including those of overseas military personnel. Jim Baker, being Bush Sr.'s sock puppet, would appear a couple times a day and whine about how horrible the Gore campaign was being, when in fact the Gore campaign was far too slow to figure out what Bush and Rove and all those folks were up to. By the time Republican operatives and staffers from Washington, flown and bussed in by Tom DeLay, staged a phony riot that was enough to intimidate the St. Pete vote-counters in to giving up the recount, it was pretty clear that the Republicans were dancing rings around the Gore campaign and the Democrats on this one.

This time, though, I don't know if it's going to work. McCain has done some serious ticking off of the press recently. Palin is clearly unqualified for her regular job, let alone for the Vice Presidency. This has nothing to do with her gender (obviously) and everything to do with her record, which I am quite sure the Republicans do not want to talk about.

It is Republicans who broadcast her daughter's pregnancy. It is Republicans who broadcast the rumor that Gov. Palin's youngest child is actually her daughters. It is Republicans who are currently broadcasting rumors that Gov. Palin had an affair with her husband's business partner. They are broadcasting these rumors and saying how awful it is that people are talking about them. Most people are scratching their heads and wondering, "Huh?"

It's sad, yet funny, to watch a once-great political party tear itself to pieces.
